O'Grady is the daughter of Jim O'Grady and Jan O'Grady. Jim O'Grady works as an advisor to financial institutions. Her family lived in Wheaton and was a student at Wheaton North School. She graduated in 1981. Before shifting from Illinois to Los Angeles, she appeared in several commercials. The first role she had was as a model for Montgomery Ward.
